For community leaders
Made-to-order workshops
Mixed Company Theatre has been creating community plays and leading community workshops in Ontario for more than 15 years.
Our facilitators and actors enter a community on request and create a theatre piece that addresses an issue or topic that the community has deemed important. The community is fully involved in the process from beginning to end, often assisting with or acting in the final production. Community theatre created in this context brings a community together, allowing people from all walks of life to discuss solutions to an issue that directly affects their lives.
Case in point
Leaders of one Ontario community contacted Mixed Company Theatre to help them approach an impending change positively, with input from all community members.
The challenge:
Learn from the mistakes of a past amalgamation of townships in preparing for a similar amalgamation on an even larger scale.
The workshop:
Mixed Company Theatre led workshops with members of the community in senior citizen homes, youth centres and community centres throughout the township. Rex Deverell, the playwright, created a script entitled "Swimming for Shore." The first draft of the script was shared with the community, revised according to residents' wishes, and cast with 70 community members. Swimming for Shore enjoyed a sold-out, two-week run at the local town hall and helped to create a unified, positive approach to the community's upcoming change.
